Okay more She-ra thoughts because this show is too good
The thing is again about Catra and Adora and is that Catra is the one who made Adora into someone who can be She-ra and defect to the rebellion
Let me explain
The reason Adora defected and accepted the role of She-ra is because she can’t stand to see innocent people suffer. She can’t stand to see people she likes hurt and in need. And that’s because she’s protective of those around her to a fault
And that doesn’t jive with the indoctrination we know she recieved growing up in the horde
In fact I would argue the thing that led her to this personality trait of protectiveness and caring about others before herself is all because child Adora made friends with Catra and suddenly had someone who she loved. That mattered to her. That reciprocated affection and friendship in a way no one else in the horde really did.
And she also quickly became aware that Shadowweaver hated the person she cared most about but would also stop hurting Catra if Adora asked.
Imagine knowing the only person who showed you any real positive emotions in your life would suffer if you didn’t step in to help them. And of course Catra resents it but also that’s a lot of fucked up pressure to put on a Adora.
And because “weakness” which probably includes affection, is largely discouraged by the horde it must have felt that the best way for Adora to show her love is to keep Catra as safe as she can.
But that’s why she has this huge complex where if she can’t save or protect her new friends alone then she is “useless”
Adora put so much of herself into protecting Catra growing up and doing it alone that she doesn’t know how to show her love and care any other way
God their relationship is so SAD but beautiful and they both are responsible for why the other one is in the position they’re in.
Adora’s overprotectivness drove Catra to resentment and to need to prove herself as Adora’s equal the only way she knows how: by being her rival
Catra’s need when they were young to be protected and her inability to communicate her real feelings to Adora sooner created a person who has to do whatever it takes to protect innocents/people she cares about.
And that’s not to forget shadow-weavers role in all that
Just I can’t get over how sad and believable their dynamic is
