The Nature of Redemption: Azula v’s Adam Taurus.

Hi folks, this is the first post in hopefully a series, whereby I answer questions posed by some of my faithful and trusty followers.

so .. @thoughtfuldreamercreatorduck​ posed the question, (and I’m paraphrasing)

“Why do you think Azula from ATLAB is deserving of a redemption arc and Adam from RWBY doesnt?”

Now this question threw me cause I had never considered comparing anyone from Avatar and RWBY, so thankyou @thoughtfuldreamercreatorduck

Before we get into the the question we first have to look at the nature of redemption arcs.

And if you are interested in an indepth examination of Tropes, I recommend heading on over to Overly Sarcastic Productions on Youtube. She does an absolute fantastic series called Trope Talks,  where she covers Villains, Fallen Heroes and Redemptions.

So for a basis and starting point Im going to compare two characters. Zuko and Raven. One a finished redemption arc and the other a potential redemption arc.

In my opinion Zuko’s redemption arc is one of the best redemption arcs ever written in any type of media (I’ll admit I could be biased.) But in order for a redemption arc to ring true, whether a Villain turned good or a Fallen Hero returning to the fold, they have to be willing to question their values and sacrifice the thing that drives and motivates them.

The thing they care about most.
