[Anonymous asked] Hey I’ve become pretty worried about being doxxed. Do you know any way to prevent this? Any program or browser extension or anything?

First and foremost, the best way to prevent people from doxxing you is to make sure you have no personally identifiable information on your blog. This post we made a while ago (I still need to make part 3 :‘c ) goes into detail on what doxxing is, and what information to be concerned about.
I would recommend going through your blog and deleting any post that has information about you. In particular, anything that mentions places/events near your residence, any selfies, if you’ve got a link to a PayPal I’d remove that as well, etc. Vague stories (i.e. “When I was little my family and I went on vacation to X”) usually aren’t too bad, as well as other personal anecdotes – again, so long as they don’t have any identifiable information.
Btw, if someone is combing through all your public accounts to gather information on you, and then release it together, it’s not illegal, because that’s publicly accessible information. Does it make it right? No, and I am not nor will I and the archive ever insinuate as such. However, should you incur harassment as a result, it’s possible you could take legal action against them, but the result all depends on whether or not you know your doxxer, and are able to bring them to court. Sadly despite the leaps and bounds the Internet and WWW have made, the law regarding doxxing and cyber harassment/crime has been more…sluggish.
That said. If you have no online information and they’re still able to find out who you are and your information, then legal action becomes much more available given the fact that, at that stage, any method they use to gain your info is undoubtedly illegal.
The very first step is installing a firewall and whatnot to avoid any viruses or malware from getting on your computer, including keyloggers. Then I’d recommend looking into a VPN. This link explains what VPN is, and gives tips on how to choose one. It’s necessary you do your research on potential VPNs, because no two are alike and they don’t always do the same exact thing. This one explains what an IP address is and all that related junk.
The following links give more information on how to know if you were doxxed, what it is, and how to prevent it.
